Class 1 Summer 2025

WB 16th June 2025
Hooray for the sunshine.
This weather has done wonders for the children's exploration of plant growth. They have re-visited the school garden to look at their sunflowers, water them, do observational drawings and also to measure their growth.
We were fortunate also this week to be visited by Tarka pottery. The children explored how to use a slab of clay to make a bowl then used impressions from natural materials and cutters to makes a variety of botanical shapes to decorate them. Their creations have gone off to be fired and I will collect and return them to school as soon as they are ready.
In Art, we have begun looking at portraits (linked to our History topic on Explorers) We have begun by looking at the skill of observation and line drawing by creating half face portraits which we then coloured using water colours. They look amazing.
In Maths, we have moved on to fractions, focusing first on what 'whole' means and how a whole can be represented. We will continue this topic for a few weeks, exploring halves and quarters of both shape and number.
Photos to come....
