Class 1 Autumn 2024

15th November 2024

Thank you for the home learning tasks so far, we are going to have a very festive classroom this year sprinkled in with some lovely, 17th Century buildings!

In the coming weeks we will be busy exploring how different life was in London 400 years ago, finding out what caused the Great Fire and why it was worse than it would be today.

In maths, we are moving on and focusing on shape, in particular naming and describing 2d and 3d shapes and then using the language for position, direction and movement.

The children voted for who they wanted to represent them in school council by going up to the hall and choosing two children in their year group.

18th October 2024

What a productive half term. The children have worked so hard in all of their learning, showing they are ready to learn and giving all new learning tasks a try.

We have (and will continue) to explore our new text all about how Boa is having a bad birthday, we will then work to create our own version. We will be revisiting the use of adjectives and ensuring our work makes sense but also looking at the use of proper nouns. In maths, we are working hard on addition and subtraction and will move to explore reasoning problems too. Our topic of Living things and their habitats continues with a focus on food chains. We will also be mixing in some DT with some microhabitats.

11th October 2024
Thank you to all the children who have completed their home learning projects already. There are still 2 more weeks to choose 1 or both before half term. Each piece of home learning is shown and celebrated in class and then put on display for all to see. Keep up the great work. This week we have been looking at the language of bonds and adding for maths. Year 1 have been making number bonds to 10 and 20 and year 2 have been looking at the pattern of numbers when adding 10 each time.  In Science, the children have been exploring habitats with Mrs Heard and will be making their own microhabitats in the coming 2 weeks.
